Broadbeach’s business mix is distinctive: high-turnover hospitality venues around Surf Parade and the Oracle precinct with rosters, tips and POS reconciliation; short-stay apartment owners with mixed private-and-rental use; body corporate committees running the towers; and the professional suites near the convention centre and The Star. Each has tax quirks that generalist advice misses — GST on food, wage compliance in hospitality, apportioning deductions on a unit that is holiday-let half the year.
We meet Broadbeach clients at our Southport office or by video, and most of the ongoing work happens in Xero without anyone needing to drive anywhere. The Navigator Network has been a Gold Coast accounting, tax and financial planning practice since 1991.
Hospitality accounting in Broadbeach
Broadbeach has one of the densest dining strips on the Gold Coast, and the tax issues are the same from a café on Surf Parade to a venue in the Oracle: award compliance and single touch payroll across casual rosters, GST that changes line by line across a menu, tips and service charges, cash and card reconciliation, and cash flow that swings between school holidays, convention weeks and the quiet months.
Our approach is to set the bookkeeping up so the numbers show margin by trading period, BAS falls out of the file without a scramble, and the owner can see whether a lease renewal or a second site actually stacks up. Payroll tax is a live issue once wages cross the Queensland threshold, and we plan for it rather than discover it.
Holiday lets, apartments and body corporates
A large share of Broadbeach’s residential stock is investment property, much of it in short-stay letting pools or listed on booking platforms. The ATO’s data-matching now covers the platforms, so the letting calendar, the private-use days and the apportionment of interest, body corporate fees and depreciation need to reconcile. We prepare these returns to be defensible, not just optimistic, and we advise on the capital gains position before a sale rather than after.
For body corporate committees and managers we handle the entity’s own compliance — income tax where the body corporate has assessable income, GST registration questions and the treatment of sinking fund levies — and act as an independent point of reference when owners want the numbers explained.
Tourism, events and professional suites
The convention centre, the casino and the beach bring a steady flow of tour operators, event businesses, allied health clinics and consultants into Broadbeach. Common work for us: choosing between a company and a trust before the first big contract, personal services income rules for consultants, deductible equipment and vehicle decisions, and getting a Xero file clean before a bank or a buyer looks at it.
When the business is going well, the same office handles the next question — superannuation, an SMSF, or a financial plan — through Navnet FP Pty Ltd, so the tax and the wealth conversation happen with people who already know the numbers.
Getting to us from Broadbeach
Our office is at 7 Cloyne Road, Southport, about 10 kilometres north. By car it is 20 to 25 minutes on the Gold Coast Highway or Bundall Road with easy parking at the office. The G:link tram runs from Broadbeach South and Broadbeach North straight through to Southport, and the Cloyne Road office is a short walk or taxi from the Southport stations. Video meetings cover most reviews, and documents move through Xero and email, so many Broadbeach clients come in once a year for tax planning.
Every service is available to Broadbeach clients: accounting, taxation, SMSF, QBCC reporting, structuring and financial planning.
