Bookkeeping and accounting in one Gold Coast office

When the bookkeeping and the accounting are done by different people who never speak, problems surface at year end: coding that does not match the tax treatment, payroll that does not reconcile with super, and GST errors that need amending. Keeping both under one roof in Southport means the questions are asked while the transactions are fresh.

Who this suits

Gold Coast trades and construction businesses with QBCC reporting obligations, hospitality venues with casual rosters, allied health practices and consultants who would rather spend their evenings on anything other than reconciliations. FAQ

Bookkeeping questions, answered

What is the difference between bookkeeping and accounting?

Usually both roles, not always two firms. A bookkeeper keeps the day-to-day records current: bank feeds, invoices, bills and payroll. An accountant turns those records into financial statements, tax returns and decisions. We support Xero-based bookkeeping arrangements and do the accounting on top, so many Gold Coast small businesses cover both with one relationship.

Can you work with my existing bookkeeper?

Yes. Many clients keep a bookkeeper they trust. We agree who reconciles what, set up the Xero file so BAS and year-end work flow from it, and review the file each quarter. If there is no bookkeeper, ask us about the support we can arrange and what it would cover.

What does bookkeeping cost?

It depends on transaction volume, payroll and how current the file is. Monthly bookkeeping for a business with staff is usually a monthly package; a catch-up of a file that has fallen behind is quoted separately. We set out the scope and fee in writing before starting, and the first consultation is free.

My books are months behind. Can you help?

Yes. Start with the bank statements and access to your Xero file, and tell us about any outstanding BAS or ATO letters. We bring the file current, lodge what is overdue and then set up a routine so it stays current. Catching up before the ATO asks usually costs less than responding after it does.
